The Bridge
There are three routes, constructed in the 1990s, that connect the islands of Honshu and Shikoku in Japan across the Seto Inland Sea. The western crossing has a complex of seven major bridges. One of these is the 890m-main-span Tatara Bridge which connects Ikuchi Island to Ohmishima Island. Further south on this route are the Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridges.
The Tatara Bridge is a cable-stayed suspension bridge with distinctive A-shaped steel towers, that are 220m high. It carries the two-lane Nishiseto Expressway (also known as the Shimanami Kaido).
